Stick Preamp - Rane SP 13

We now carry a dedicated preamp and signal router for all 8, 10 and 12-string Stick models. The Rane "SP 13 Stick Preamplifier" is a customized version of their "AP-13 Acoustic Processor", and is modified specifically for our standard stereo Stick module with its two passive hum canceling pickups, and our new PASV-4 version of The Block module with four passive "Villex" pickups.

The stereo input jack accommodates a single 1/4" tip/ring/sleeve plug. Very high impedance input loads allow a crisp, full-range sound that brings out The Stick's rich harmonics and low bass fundamentals. Each channel has a dedicated seven-band graphic EQ for tone shaping, and a dedicated effects send with level and pan controls for the dry signal. Both channels are identical and reversible for Stick bass and melody outputs.

The rear panel has a pair of effects sends and a stereo pair of return jacks, also a stereo pair of auxiliary input jacks, and inserts on each output channel, allowing extensive stereo and dual mono processing and routing.

The outputs are two 1/4" balanced and two mic level XLR jacks, with a master mute and separate headphone jack and level, independent of the master level and mute.

A summed tuner output routes both input channels to your tuner. An extra output for the "A" channel has its own independent level control. A front-panel switch allows you to route either bass or melody Stick output to channel "A" or "B."

This is the unit that Greg Howard has long been using in his effects rack and advocating for other Stickists' use. Because of the very high impedance inputs, as well as the unit's flexibility and versatility throughout, Greg came to depend on a modified version of the AP-13 in his performances and found that it made his standard Stick pickups sound better than any other preamp he tried.

Stick Enterprises worked closely with Rane to implement Greg's suggested modifications, and to match input impedance with The Stick's passive pickups, optimizing their unit for Stick applications.

The SP 13 manual is especially written for Stick players and explains all Stick features. Flow charts are included for typical effects applications.

The SP 13 combines the functions of a high-quality preamp, simple mixer and direct box, all in a single rack-space, lightweight unit. External 110 or 220 volt power supply included.
