Stick feature in April issue of
Bass Guitar Magazine

Two Features from the magazine here on stick.com
Jim Reilly's article "The Birth of Two-Handed Tapping"
The "Ask the Expert" interview with Emmett Chapman

I just received the BassGuitar/UK issue 6/2003 packed with Stick and Stickist features and wanted to express thanks to all those involved in presenting the best picture of the Stick community and history of our work that I could have hoped for in a music magazine.

I counted 15 pages featuring The Stick and Stick artists, plus other pages with Stick player photos and highlights, as follows:

  • Tony substantiates the instrument's future and the sense of community among players in an editor's "Expert" interview.
  • Nick contributes a song transcription from his recently released "Stick Insect" CD.
  • There's a review of Sean Malone's Stick featured "Emergent" prog rock CD.
  • John Myung of Dream Theater is everywhere on the pages playing The Stick.
  • The photos of various Stick models are very clear and revealing, showing our newest and best long-scale hardwood instruments, also the NS/Stick and the SB8.
  • I had the opportunity to express myself with some exuberance in an editor's interview.
  • Other Stick artist's albums are listed and reviewed in Jim Reilly's "Top Ten" and "Stick Where You Didn't Know" features.
  • Mikael Janssen covers some Stick history with interesting quotes by Alphonso Johnson and photos of the early Stick days.
  • Jim's other feature, "The Birth of 2-Handed Music" was the most rewarding of all for me personally, as it explains in dramatic fashion the moment of creation of the basic playing method that lead to all the rest. At the end of the article, he puts into perspective what I had to later accomplish to fulfill that moment of inspiration. My special personal thanks to Jim.

To those interested in adding to your library of essential and collateral Stick information, this English magazine is sold in over 600 outlets across the US and Canada, including Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Hastings & Chapters. The current "Stick" issue will reach these bookstores around mid May. It can also be purchased online at: www.bassguitarmagazine.com. From the main menu, go to "Current Issue" and click on "Interested in buying this issue". If you feel so inclined after reading the features, please send a short message of thanks to editor Adrian Ashton, or to manager Steve Harvey, writer Mikael Janssen, or to Jim for his outstanding contribution.

What a treat, Emmett.
