Ron Baggerman

Live In Concert 2002 VHS video $25, PAL format $28.

This live concert video, approximately 40 minutes in length, features Ron Baggerman on 12-string MIDI'd Stick and Jan Wolfkamp on acoustic drums, electric drums, and loops. Ron continues to show his flare for melody and full use of all 12 strings in this video. While Ron continues to exhibit a heavy latin influence, there are also parts of this performance to tread into jazz, fusion, and progressive territory along with some ripping distortion solo work. While all this is going on, Ron accompanies his right hand work with very intricate and percussive bass work in the left hand. He also frequently crosses over playing both melody and bass with the right hand as well as melody and bass with the left hand. His use of MIDI in this performance is very subtle and at no point does it take precedence over the natural sounds of the Stick. During the entirety of this performance, Jan Wolfkamp provides accompaniment to Ron's Stick plus so much more. His mixture of acoustic and electronic drums frequently leaves you wondering where some of the sounds are coming from. Add to that his use of loops with his drum kit and you end up with two performers doing the work of many and a real treat for the senses.

As is the case with so many of the currenty available live Stick performances, this video provides an invaluable look at the technique of a 20+ year veteran of the instrument. The performance, originally done for Europe Online, is professionally recorded with excellent sound and plenty of camera angles offering a close look at the work of both performers. In the end, this work is a must for the video collection of any Stickist.
