Dec 23, 2019, Woodland Hills, California

The Los Angeles City Council presented Emmett Chapman with a plaque celebrating the August 26, 2019 fifty-year anniversary of his discovery of his unique two-handed tapping method "Free Hands", which gave rise to The Chapman Stick and the music of hundreds of Stick players over the next half-century.  The award was presented to Emmett at his home in Woodland Hills on December 23 by Albert Lord, Deputy, Office of City Council President Herb J. Wesson Jr.. Albert spearheaded the recognition effort, and he has an early vintage ironwood Stick.

Emmett marked the occasion by playing his gold Railboard, and autographing Albert's instrument.

Our thanks to Deputy Lord, Council President Wesson and Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, for their kind recognition.
